On behalf of our client which is a well established Health Service in Katherine, Remote NT. We are seeking an experienced Social Worker to join a supportive community mental health team that specialise in family services in remote communities for a locum contract. The role is fulltime Monday to Friday for a 4-6 month contract period with possible extension. In this role you will be responsible for providing a high quality, direct social work service who work with remote Aboriginal families with complex needs to improve the health, wellbeing and safety of children in our communities. The team supports expectant and current parents and extended family members to build confidence and capacity to bring up strong and healthy children in a culturally safe manner.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support family support workers to undertake community engagement, case management and program activities
  • Work closely with community members, Aboriginal staff and local stakeholders to develop culturally appropriate strategies.
  • Provide intensive family support for families in the Katherine region. Support is to be provided through a strengths-based approach, the principles of self[1]determination and respect for Aboriginal people, communities and culture.
  • Participate in shared planning, with client consent, to respond to the needs of client families.
  • Provide clinical guidance and support in case conferences.
  • Assist families to access support, services and resources as required.

About You

  • Support family support workers to undertake community engagement, case management and program activities
  • Recognised tertiary qualification in Social Work, Psychology, Nursing or equivalent.
  • High standard of interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to relate sensitively and appropriately with vulnerable people.
  • Well-developed time management, decision-making and organisational skills to meet reporting deadlines and manage a multi-disciplinary team.
  • An understanding of and commitment to Aboriginal cultural values.
  • An understanding of trauma-informed practice and the diverse challenges affecting families in our region.
  • Computer literacy skills including experience in data collection and reporting

Agency Rates
Up to $55 p/h + Super- based on experience + Free Accommodation + Paid return travel.
Additional salary paid for days travelling into remote community.
