On behalf of our client based in Canberra, we are seeking a permanent Level HP2 Social Worker for Adult Inpatient Mental Health Services; responsible for conducting skilled clinical assessments and delivering individual and group based psychological interventions to patients.

This is a full-time position working Monday to Friday within the Allied Health team providing services to the Adult Mental Health Unit, Mental Health Short Stay Unit, and to any mental health surge wards that open at the Hospital. The Allied Health team is made up of a diverse group of professions that work together to support the recovery goals of consumers admitted to any of the AH Adult Mental Health Inpatient facilities.

The AMHU is a 40-bed inpatient unit for people experiencing moderate to severe mental illness. AMHU is a contemporary evidence-based service providing high quality mental health care, guided by the principles of recovery. The service aims to provide collaborative care involving the person, their carers and other key services.

Key Responsibilities

– Provide appropriate skilled clinical assessment and interventions to consumers with severe, complex and / or acute mental health issues within the social work scope of practice and established best practice framework

– Include carers, children, nominated persons, GPs, and other service providers in the recovery planning process as required

– Participate in the therapeutic group program, including evaluation of the program

– Adhere to risk management processes, identifying and escalating issues appropriately

– Complete clinical and program records to standards required and meet data collection requirements

– Participate in clinical supervision, continuing professional development and personal performance review processes

– Provide professional supervision and training to health professionals level 1 – Allied Health Assistants, students, and other support staff

– Actively contribute to the implementation of clinical governance activities, quality improvement projects, research programs, and health promotion in areas relevant to service

– Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation

About You

– Strong organisational skills with a high degree of drive.

– Adaptability and flexibility to accommodate change and provide responsive services to meet client’s needs.

– Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.

– Degree in Social work.

– Professional membership or eligibility for membership of the Australian association of Social Workers (AASW)

– Registration under the working with vulnerable people ACT 2011

– Applicants must have a minimum of 12 months paid work experience, post qualification, in a related/ relevant organisation/ service

– Current passenger Vehicle driver’s license

– Computer literacy skills are required as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems

Selection Criteria

– Demonstrated ability to provide appropriate social work assessments and interventions to people with complex mental health illnesses or disorders, including people from diverse backgrounds

– Demonstrated understanding of the principles of recovery and the National Standards for Mental Health Services

– Evidence of a developing knowledge of contemporary mental health issues and best practice approaches to mental health

– Proven effective communication skills including ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team and to liaise/consult with carers, GPs, and relevant agencies

– Demonstrated ability to evaluate social work and /or psychosocial intervention programs through quality improvement initiatives, and to plan and develop the service to meet the needs of the people

– Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience.

Annual Salary

– $70,679 to $97,028 (plus 11.5% super)
