On behalf of our client based in Canberra, we are seeking a permanent Level HP2 Psychologist for the Adult Inpatient Mental Health Services; responsible for conducting skilled clinical assessments and delivering individual and group based psychological interventions to patients.

At this level it is expected that you will provide high quality interventions and achieve sound outcomes for people under routine supervision. You will contribute your expertise to the multidisciplinary team, provide supervision to staff at level HP1 – Allied Health Assistants and students, and support the Allied Health Manager in change processes. You will be required to undertake quality initiatives to promote service delivery at a standard of best practice.

This is a full-time position working Monday to Friday within the Allied Health team providing services to the Adult Mental Health Unit, Mental Health Short Stay Unit, and to any mental health surge wards that open at the Hospital. The Allied Health team is made up of a diverse group of professions that work together to support the recovery goals of consumers admitted to any of the AH Adult Mental Health Inpatient facilities.

Key Responsibilities

– Provide appropriate assessments and interventions using established principle, techniques, and methods, to patients with complex and serious mental health conditions. Including clinical assessment and intervention may include but not limited to:

o Case formulation and treatment planning

o Psychoeducational and structured psychological therapy interventions (both individual and group- based) for complex mental health conditions

o Specialist assessment and reports, including psychometric testing and outcome measures, and structured clinical interviews

o Crisis management and safety planning based on Psychological principles

o While communicating with carers, children, nominated persons, GPs, and other service providers in the recovery planning process

– Participate in the therapeutic group program, including evaluation of the program

– Adhere to risk management processes, identifying and escalating issues appropriately

– Complete clinical and program records to standards required and meet data collection requirements

– Participate in clinical supervision, continuing professional development and personal performance review process

– Provide professional supervision and training to Health Professionals Level 1, Allied health Assistants, students, and other support staff

– Actively contribute to the implementation of clinical governance activities, quality improvement projects, research programs, and health promotion in areas relevant to service

– Undertake other duties appropriate to this level of classification which contribute to the operation of the organisation

About You

– Strong organisational skills with a high degree of drive

– Adaptability and flexibility to accommodate change and provide responsive services to meet client’s needs

– Ability to work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team

– Current registration or eligible for general registration with the Psychology board of Australia (AHPRA)

– Applicants must have a minimum of 12 months paid work experience, post qualification, in a related/ relevant organisation/ service

– Current passenger Vehicle driver’s license

– Computer literacy skills are required as you will be responsible for completing required documentation and becoming a proficient user of the Digital Health Record and/or other Information Technology systems

Selection Criteria

– Proven ability to provide clinical assessment and interventions for mental illness and Psychological dysfunction in an adult acute inpatient setting

– A demonstrated understanding of the principles of recovery and the national standard for Mental Health Services

– Evidence of a developing knowledge of contemporary mental health issues and best practice approaches to mental health

– Effective communication skills with the ability to work effectively as a member of a multi-disciplinary team. Including ability to liaise and consult with carer’, GPs and relevant agencies

– Demonstrated ability to evaluate psychological intervention programs through quality improvement initiatives, and to plan and develop the service to meet the needs of people

– Demonstrates understanding of, and adherence to, safety and quality standards, work, health and safety (WH&S) and the positive patient experience

Salary

– $70,679 to $97,028 (plus 11.5% super) per annum
