About the Opportunity

Exciting 12-week contract opportunities are available across multiple specialties at Launceston General Hospital, a major 400-bed teaching and referral centre for Northern Tasmania.

Roles are available in Medical, Surgical, ICU and Emergency Departments, offering strong clinical variety, excellent support structures, and the chance to work within a high-performing tertiary hospital environment.

Registered Nurse | Medical Ward

The Medical Ward is a 32-bed acute unit caring for a broad range of medical presentations including respiratory, cardiac, infectious diseases, and chronic condition exacerbations.

It is a fast-paced yet well-supported environment with strong clinical leadership, focusing on patient flow, stability, and safe discharge planning.

This role requires strong acute medical nursing experience, excellent assessment and escalation skills, and the ability to manage competing priorities in a busy ward setting.

Nurses must be confident working within multidisciplinary teams to deliver holistic, patient-centred care.

Registered Nurse | Surgical Ward

The Surgical Ward is a 32-bed unit specialising in upper gastrointestinal, colorectal, urology, and general surgical patients.

It manages both elective and emergency surgical pathways, with a strong focus on post-operative recovery, complication monitoring, and coordinated care planning.

This role requires recent surgical ward experience, strong wound care and post-operative assessment skills, and the ability to recognise and escalate deterioration.

Nurses should be confident working in a high-turnover surgical environment with a strong focus on teamwork and patient recovery outcomes.

Registered Nurse | Emergency Department

The Emergency Department is a busy tertiary-level unit managing a wide range of acute presentations including trauma, medical emergencies, paediatrics, and resuscitation cases.

It operates in a high-pressure environment with constant patient flow and rapid clinical decision-making.

This role requires triage and resuscitation competencies, ALS certification, and proven ED experience.

Nurses must be confident in critical thinking, prioritisation, and delivering rapid, high-quality care across all triage categories.

Registered Nurse | Intensive Care Unit

The ICU is a purpose-built 11-13 bed critical care unit managing complex and life-threatening conditions including respiratory failure, sepsis, shock, and multi-organ dysfunction.

It is a major referral ICU for Northern Tasmania with high-acuity presentations and advanced monitoring requirements.

This role requires a minimum of 2 years ICU experience, strong ventilator and haemodynamic monitoring skills, and the ability to manage critically ill patients.
