On behalf of our client in WA we are seeking an experienced Mental Health Clinician for a 12-week Locum contract with potential for extension.

Offering specialist mental health Social Work knowledge and skills consistent with contemporary practice. Providing psycho-social assessment for the treatment of patients and planning, undertaking and evaluating clinical social work interventions with patients, carer/s and groups in the Mental Health Unit as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provides specialist mental health Social Work knowledge and skills consistent with contemporary practice
  • Acts as a regional consultant and clinical resource to other staff and agencies in issues relating to mental health social work
  • Provides psycho-social assessment for the treatment of patients, carer/s and groups in the MHU
  • Plans, undertakes and evaluates clinical social work interventions with patients, carer/s and groups in the MHU and participates substantially in multidisciplinary teamwork
  • Acts as case manager to Acute Psychiatric Unit patients as required and undertakes the preparation and review of care plans for case managed patients
  • Liaises with government and non-government agencies and advocates with them on behalf of the patients
  • Management of complex patient case conference/s involving lawyers, the Department of Child Protection and /or Police
  • Maintains a broad knowledge of community resources
  • Maintains and promotes effective communication lines with staff, patient, carer and agencies both internal and external to MHU
  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of, in practice, the Western Australia Mental Health Act (2014)
  • Provides short term case management and counselling services to mental health inpatients in the Hospital general ward as identified by inpatient team

About You

  • Tertiary qualification in Social Work and eligible for full membership of the AASW
  • Demonstrated experience in providing social work services in an acute mental health setting
  • Ability to undertake social work interventions in mental health
  • Experience providing mental health care to Aboriginal people and working in rural or remote environment
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Western Australia Mental Health Act (2014)
  • Demonstrated experience and capacity to work independently and within a multidisciplinary team
  • Demonstrated effective written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Sound knowledge of community resources relating to social work in health care and welfare systems
  • Current C or C-A Class driver’s licence or other specialised licence

Remuneration: up $65-70 p/h + Super | Travel allowance + Accommodation provided
