One year on: Celebrating 12 months of cmr and YDJ

By Monique Missak| Published 3 November 2026

A lot can happen in 12 months.

This week marks one year since Your Doctor Jobs (YDJ) joined Cornerstone Medical Recruitment (cmr), bringing together two specialist healthcare recruitment businesses with a shared ambition to build something better.

It’s been a year of learning, change, plenty of hard work and, most importantly, bringing people together. And while there have been challenges along the way, there’s a lot to celebrate.

Two businesses, one shared ambition

When cmr founders Sam and Norbert Miklos began exploring opportunities to grow through acquisition, they weren’t simply looking to make the business bigger. They wanted to bring new expertise, experience and leadership into cmr, building on what the business had already achieved.

YDJ stood out for its strong reputation in doctors recruitment, established relationships and experienced team. For Sam, it wasn’t simply about acquiring another business. It was about bringing together people with valuable experience, specialist knowledge and a shared commitment to doing great work.

For Justin Smith, YDJ Founder, joining cmr presented an opportunity to build on what his team had created over the years, while gaining access to the systems, resources and support of a larger healthcare recruitment business.

From marketing and finance to training and professional development, the partnership offered opportunities to do more for both the team and the doctors and healthcare organisations they support.

Importantly, both businesses shared similar values and a genuine commitment to their people.

A year of learning and growing together

Bringing two established businesses together is about much more than integrating systems. It’s about people, relationships and finding new ways of working, while recognising the experience and strengths each team brings.

Over the past 12 months, our teams have come together through training sessions, industry conferences, client visits, team celebrations and plenty of conversations about how we can do things better.

Behind the scenes, there’s been significant progress too. Our CRM integration is complete, processes have been refined and our doctors division has continued to grow revenue through a period of substantial change.

Perhaps one of the achievements we’re most proud of is that the entire YDJ team has remained with us throughout the transition. That says a lot about the people involved and their willingness to embrace change, share ideas and build something stronger together.

As Sam reflected on the anniversary, the experience has meant questioning established ways of working, challenging old habits and being prepared to change, even when something has worked well in the past.

It hasn’t always been comfortable, but it’s helped us become a stronger business.

More experience, more opportunities

One of the biggest opportunities in bringing cmr and YDJ together was combining our specialist knowledge, established relationships and resources to offer more to the doctors and healthcare organisations we support.

And we’re already seeing what that looks like in practice.

Our clinical training offering is one example. Previously delivered in Brisbane, our ALS2 courses have now expanded to Sydney and Melbourne, supported by the broader network of doctors who joined cmr through YDJ. Over the past year, we’ve delivered four ALS2 courses, alongside our ALS and PALS training, giving more doctors access to valuable professional development opportunities.

It’s an example of what we hoped to achieve through the acquisition: taking something we already did well, combining it with the strengths of another experienced team and making it available to more healthcare professionals across Australia.

And it’s just one of the ways we’re working to deliver more than recruitment, supporting doctors throughout their careers and helping them feel confident about their next step.

The next chapter

While much of the first year has focused on bringing our businesses together, we’re now looking ahead to what we can achieve as one team.

With the foundations of the integration in place, we have an opportunity to build on the experience, relationships and expertise each business brings. For us, that means continuing to find new ways to support doctors throughout their careers, work closely with healthcare organisations and make a positive difference in the communities we serve.

There’s still plenty we want to achieve, but we’re proud of how far we’ve come and excited about what’s possible together.

One year stronger, with plenty more to look forward to.

Six months into the journey, Sam Miklos and Justin Smith sat down to reflect on why they came together, the lessons learned and what they hoped to achieve as one team.
